Due to its release debit card practices in Oregon, which are particularly exploitative to prisoners and arrestees, The Human Rights Defense Center is suing Numi Financial in U.S. District Court. According to HRDC, a Justice Catalyst partner organization, Numi Financial has been charging fees for people to access funds on their debit cards after being released from jail or prison. On its website, HRDC added that it is interested in litigating separate cases against Numi and any other debit card companies, such as JPay, EZ Card, Keefe, Futura Card Services, Access Corrections, TouchPay and Release Pay that may have also exploited prisoners. It encouraged anyone who had been a victim of these practices in the last 18 months to contact the HRDC.
