Ming Tanigawa-Lau

Ming will join the team at the Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project (ASAP) to build the first asylum-seeker-led systemic reform program in the United States.By connecting remotely with ASAP’s over 300,000 members who are asylum seekers, she will work with them to enact systemic change through litigation, policy advocacy, and media communications. During law school, Ming organized student trips to volunteer at the border in Tijuana and the family detention center in Dilley, Texas. She spent her summers working directly with asylum seekers through internships with Al Otro Lado and Innovation Law Lab. In Los Angeles, Ming joined a local coalition to pursue sanctuary measures in LA County and represented clients through the UCLA Immigrant Family Legal Clinic. Prior to law school, she worked with survivors of domestic violence in Honolulu, Hawai'i. Ming graduated with specializations in Critical Race Studies and Public Interest Law and Policy from UCLA School of Law, which sits on Tongva land.
