ASAP-IRAP Announce New Litigation Initiative on Behalf of Migrants

The Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project (ASAP) and the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP), with the help of Justice Catalyst, are forming a partnership to bring litigation on behalf of asylum seekers and other forced migrants. They will bring cases on behalf of individuals who have suffered abuses in detention, were separated from their families by the U.S. government, and whose due process rights have been systematically violated.

The initiative will help asylum-seeking families vindicate their rights and seek monetary damages from the government for suffering as a result of separation and inhumane treatment in detention. Furthermore, they will aid asylum seekers in bringing lawsuits against Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

This partnership will harness the resources, knowledge, and expertise of both organizations. ASAP’s mission is to provide community support and emergency legal aid to asylum-seeking families throughout the United States. IRAP advocates for refugees and other displaced people through legal representation, systemic advocacy, and litigation. Through this partnership, IRAP and ASAP will be working closely to identify and bring new litigation cases, including cases under the Federal Tort Claims Act.
